As some of you know, Kimi and I quit smoking 5 months ago and we haven't slipped even once! It's great news for us and quite a savings.....we NEVER thought we could be the ones to actually quit. We were smoking 3 packs a day each, so if we can do it anyone can....you just have to want to quit, then it's not that hard. We're saving a cool $100.00 per week.
However, all is not apple pie and whipped cream, or is it? Our metabolism changed a great deal since we smoked and now the weight gains have been tremendous! We've ballooned out considerably and therefore had to take some steps to try to lose 30 or 40 pounds. We joined a health club and started walking, working out, lifting weights 3 to 4 days a week. This club is only $20.00 per person, so if you are interested let us know. Problem has been.....we've still kept gaining weight and not dropping off the fat. The weight we've gained is muscle tissue and Kimi has some big arms now.....LOL The fat we lose hasn't been enough that we don't eat it right back on the next day.
WE FOUND THE SOLUTION FINALLY!
We'll let you know but we should be dropping fat by the end of this week. Go to
Calorie Counter
Sign up, and do your profile, start counting your calories with their calorie counter. The site will tell you how many calories you can eat per day and still lose weight. It's really pretty simple, no need to count fat grams, watch your sugar intake, worry about cake, pie, ice cream etc. Just simply don't go over your calorie count for the day and you HAVE to lose weight! There is no other way around it and you should lose between 1/2 to 2 pounds per week. We're doing it!

Strange Things About Cigarettes And Fat, Muscle, Health And Losing Weight
Kimi and I have both smoked over 30 years and we never thought we had a possibility of quitting. We thought we would probably go to an early grave, (and may yet) because of lung cancer or mouth cancer, or some other crap caused by smoking.
One day about 5 months ago we dared to think we would quit. After deciding we both really wanted to do it we never again said that "we hope we can quit," or "don't know if we really can quit," or "we're going to try to quit." We just decided to pick out a date that we would quit and not smoke again. We then joined a group sponsored by our health insurance, we ordered Zyban, and nicotine patches to use both to quit. We started taking the Zyban as we kept smoking, headed for our quit date.
We worried about gaining weight as our quit date came closer and I joked to Kimi that she would never have to worry about her weight. She was at 114 pounds and close to the heaviest she had ever been in her life. I am 6'5" and was at 210 pounds and just about right for me. I told Kimi that I would be the one that had to worry about weight gain but first had to concentrate on quitting the cigarettes. During this time we were each smoking 3 packs a day and it was costing around $92.00 per week for our habit.
Anyway.....our quit date came and we quit. That was 4 months ago and if we can do it anyone can. So then we started gaining weight and Kimi gained around 25 pounds, I gained 40 pounds. Needless to say we had to join a health club and we're now working out about 4 days a week but still gaining weight!
Fact Is Stranger Than Fiction :)
I was very athletic in my younger days but never really stopped to think about a few things we are learning right now about weight gain. The more we work out, the worse the scales are looking and we've had to buy new clothes in increments of about two sizes larger so far. We're only buying a couple pairs of this or that because we have no idea where we were going to end up before we buy a whole new wardrobe.
A couple of days ago a light bulb came on from our health club trainer and after that reading up on a bunch of stuff on the internet. We may never lose weight! Our trainer is pure muscle and at 6 foot tall weighs 257 pounds. I have gained weight after smoking and am 6 foot 5 inches tall and 250 pounds. I look a little pudgy around the belly I would say but no fat anywhere else. By the time I really start gaining more muscle I could weigh near 300 pounds and really look great! We found that muscle weighs a whole lot more than fat.
Here's the big kicker! Many, Many people go on strict diets and go on and off all of their lives, never really losing the weight they wanted to. Looks to us like there's another way! Just start lifting weights 3 to 4 days a week. Our health club is only $20.00 per month per person and no contracts. So......as you lift your weights and gain more muscle you will start losing fat. Muscle tissue needs lots of calories, and will actually start eating your fat reserves as you work out. You will even be able to eat more as you gain your muscle and continue to lose more and more fat! We're excited......about the whole thing and are having fun at the gym. Maybe some of you want to do some Meet and Greets there???.... LOL Might as well perk the place up right?
Hope to get some feedback from this blog from some of you who probably know a whole lot more on this subject than we do. For those who are learning like us, do a little checking of your own on the internet about the advantages of lifting weights. Let us know what you have found and when you want to meet us for a "work out"........We're up for those too :)
